De Pencier Bluff - October 8 2023

Another random Seymour-group "summit"

This TR picks up from that of Mystery Peak, on my little clean-up journey to get a bunch of minor peaks in the Seymour Group.

From the road below Mystery, you descend on the road until the base of the Brockton chair, at which point you follow a somewhat slippery trail (lots of wet boulders, mud, and some slick logs/roots) up and along the ridge that makes its way to the bluffs. There's a small pond between the first bump and the final/higher one, at which point most people stop to take in views on the rocks, but I curled up and around to climber's right to find higher rocks, and then a short bushwhack (like half a dozen steps) up to the high point.

On the top of the bluffs, looking down at where more reasonable people stopped

The views were pretty nice up top, so I got some more photos before I headed down, as the day was starting to drag out a bit, and I had 3 more peaks to visit before calling it quits.

Zoom-in on Mount Baker
I moved over a bit to get a shot over the ocean, where the sun was already starting to cast an orange tint (around 4pm)
Robie Reid and Coquitlam Mountain on the left, and Golden Ears+Edge on the right
Slightly tippy summit evidence

After summiting, it was a short 20-minute walk back to the Mystery Peak area, where I then set off for the next objective, Suicide Bluff.
