Tanglewood Hill - June 24 2023

This was the last stop on our 4-peak day in Tulameen, after Olivine Mountain. We drove up the road to Lodestone Lake, but turned off toward Tanglewood once the fork appeared. The former section was still 2wd/low clearance accessible, but after this point it got rougher. Lots of pinstriping, so you must be ready to accept that, and it was rough enough in spots you need at least medium-high clearance, and AWD or enough flex to keep a single drive axle planted. If you want to drive all the way to the end of the road where we parked, you'll also need to have a vehicle not taller than mine, and be quite careful driving through spots with logs jutting out of the sides. I ended up touching once on the way up, but it was on the side of my vehicle that someone had "pre-damaged" for me this winter in an icy parking lot, so I wasn't too worried about it.

Gearing up sucked because like the top of Olivine, we were getting MOBBED by mosquitoes, it was quite horrid. We bushwhacked up and over a bunch of dead trees for 7 minutes until we got to the highest point we could find in the highest contour we had on our maps, took our photos, and spent the same amount of time getting down, whacking away at bugs basically the whole time. It was quite miserable, to be honest.

Once we got back to the car, we killed probably a dozen bugs that got into the car in the 3 seconds we had doors open, and got the heck out of dodge. I was more careful on the drive down, and skirted around all the logs around the trail successfully. We did attempt one more peak before going home, but there was similarly terrible terrain, just as many bugs, and it would've taken much longer, and it was already past 7pm, so we just decided to call it and get home before it became the next day.

Overall, this peak sucks, but the trip as a whole was pretty fun, and I got to make a new friend in Ling, who seems to be willing to suffer through as much BS, if not more than me for a green dot on peakbagger, so that's pretty awesome.
