Tangled Summit - June 4 2022
Coast Mountains, Anmore, British Columbia
1218m
This is a continuation of our Journey along Dilly-Dally loop, specifically the 2nd peak on our trip, picking up from the TR for Eagle Mountain.
After bushwhacking our way up a rather unimpressive "peak" for 45 minutes, we were quite happy to regain an actual trail as we set off toward Tangled Summit just before noon. This trail was still patchily snowy, but not too difficult to navigate, so we hit Jessica Lake in a matter of moments, where we stopped and pondered whether or not a well-placed dive could cleanly break through the ice, took a picture or two, and headed onward.
20 minutes of plodding along later, we made our way to West Point, where we got our first actually decent views of the trip. We could finally see out of the trees and across towards the Seymour area, Indian Arm, and the city.
A couple short minutes after we got to The Pulpit, the next named viewpoint, which gives fairly similar views, but with a slightly better perspective of the hill you climbed to get there.
About 10 more minutes from there, and we arrived at Lindsay Lake. This one actually had some clear snow/ice-less spots, so I think we can officially call winter over for this area.
From this point, the snow was pretty consistent, and if I probably should've put my microspikes on. But a few anti-snow posts in some Facebook outdoors groups made me determined to prove one doesn't need special (if cheap) gear to get out, so I stubbornly refused. Thankfully the snow was bumpy enough to not need too much kick-stepping or anything, and we made the summit in about half an hour. We also saw our first and only other hikers for the day, a man and his dog who we discovered later came up the trail from Swan Falls and traversed south from Mt Beautiful. This summit was better than the last (a low bar), but the views were honestly not as good as the viewpoints prior.
Since the views weren't exactly inspiring, and we still had 3 peaks left and had already burned 5 hours getting to this point, we moved on pretty fast toward Mount Beautiful.
